New Improved Scribble Effect
One of the first tutorials I ever made for Apple Motion was a scribble effect tutorial so I thought after all these years it would be fun to revisit the idea and see what I could do to improve it.
Oh, and there's a free title template version for Final Cut which you can download here (please ask for access when requested and be a little patient because I am sometimes sleeping): drive.google.com/file/d/1qIMmJ0nm85-9LtNF528v8a-TEBDmxReM/view?usp=share_link

    You create some very sensational scenes, but the real mind-blowing stuff is stuff like using crystallize and directional blur and then narrowing the alpha on a levels filter.

    🙂JUST INCREDIBLE Simon! I am trying to recreate all your Tutorials to learn how to use Apple Motion better. But this one was difficult. I guess that over time I'll gather better insight on how to do each step and make each action make sense. I can occasionally see some steps that you have omitted, but yet possible to include while learning. Thanks for making these advanced tutorials available to us. (And imagine, this was made 8 years ago, impressive). /Claes

    Just yesterday I was thinking, Simon hasn't shown up this week yet. Is he okay? So today you explained. Get better soon! And just yesterday, I was watching some of your old content that I hadn't watched yet and I was so surprised by how amazing, clever and detailed you are. Thanks again for existing, Motion is nothing without you, hehehe!! And thanks for this new tutorial. So many new details that you taught and that's what makes you unique! The Indent filter that I think was too sharp maybe. And it would be interesting maybe, if there were some drops of coloured paint on the floor and when the text falls, it would kind of crush them and spread everywhere. You are amazing Simon!! Every week you amaze us with your knowledge. Thank you and get well!

    A bit off topic... and more in the motion design world. Using the bezier tool I can draw a line and use write-on to have it write on. What I see using path tracing in AE is that I can have a line write center out. Is there a way to do this in Apple Motion. Do you have a quick tip you could share with us? Again I love your creativity and I often watch your videos first thing in the morning and find inspiration in them.

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell 6 днів тому

      The write-on/off behaviour is just a quick and easy substitute for keyframing the first and last point offsets - so the answer is that yes, you can write from the centre out if you keyframe it.

    I notice that you make more videos with Apple than with davinci resolve. Is Apple better than davinci resolve in your opinion, and do you recommend people who love your videos to use Apple instead of davinci resolve

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell 11 днів тому

      The only reason I make more tutorials for Motion is that most of my audience is here for Motion tutorials ... not because Motion is 'better than Resolve' which is certainly not the case, although one could argue that if your interest is specifically in motion graphics then Motion does have an edge because that it what it is designed for.

    • @Freedomintertainment

      @@SimonUbsdell thank you for responding. It is an honor to learn from you. Can the design that you make in motion be made in Davinci resolve

    Thank you for the great educational video... for free too!? What are your thoughts on Avid Media Composer, btw? Thought it might be worth learning since that's what big productions use

    • @SimonUbsdell
      @SimonUbsdell 13 днів тому

      Thank you. My thoughts on learning editing software is that if you want to work in editing professionally it pays to learn Premiere, Resolve and Media Composer as well as Final Cut. Depending on the job, I will use any one of these four and I can't afford not to know how to work with them. However, if you don't have to worry about interfacing with other users on different NLE platforms and you have a free choice about what to use, then you can just focus on whichever one you like best. Media Composer is great but these days I don't think it has anything like the competitive edge it used to have.

    Great explainer! On my show, in my talking head segments I usually have video playing behind me on a CRT, and that's added in post. I find that Linear Dodge gives the most authentic CRT look as you can still see reflections of the room on the screen in the darker parts.
